New Year’s Day, Yipee Yai Yay

It’s a rare day of sunshine in Oregon! Now if I could just crank up the outdoor temps by about 40 or 50 degrees, it would be…ahhhh. Throw in some palm trees and sand, and you wouldn’t see me indoors again. (You’d never know that a few years ago I was an avid skier and snowboarder. Like dude – cold urticaria happened).

Just a few shots below with my iPhone and once again, no glasses. I wonder how the pix would turn out if I took along the fancy-pants camera and some prescription eyeball wear?

Holiday Happenings

Hey y’all!

It was a splendid Christmas this year with Teresa and Kholi here, visiting for a week. They are the world’s easiest guests and so fun to be with. Teresa is now, after a 25+ hour trip from LA, in Western Australia in 99 degree weather. She SO should have taken her mama along 🙂

I’m up to my eyeballs in Kindermusik training. While I’m enjoying learning so much, I’m really ready to be singing, dancing and having fun with the kids and their caregivers. The holidays have put a bit of a detour into the works with getting the practicum set up and the contract signed with the church for the room rental. But after a few more weeks of study, getting licensed, getting my business name, advertising like a wild woman etc etc etc, the new journey will finally begin! At that point, I will start yet another blog for the business to keep the parents and general public informed of scheds and such (but will still maintain this one as well).

From Kindermusik International. A sweet look at what Kindermusik is all about.

As this year winds down, I’d like to wish everyone a healthy, happy, FUN, adventurous and musical New Year!

For Chris

Life never promised clean closures and tidy

like perfect Christmas bows –

good-byes.

Grief is a fickle, unfathomable guest who

tip-toes away in the night

only to

cunningly

set my feet,

like those of a wobbly fawn,

on the slickest of

ice.

Flailing, grasping –

the impending impact with sorrow wounds

mightily

Yet by its nature

remains unseen

unnoticed

by those around.

No wise words find their way to me now….

Rhythmic crunching of salt-sprinkled chips

overrule a sensible gym workout,

as I sit in silent solitude

listening intently for the indelible echoes of your

memorable laugh.

Time stands still in the daily

moments

of the magnificent and the mundane

We miss you terribly, Chris –

and wonder when we truly first

lost you.

Rest in Peace, Chris. You will always be in our hearts.

S.A.D.

Just a friendly shout out to all you who deal with Seasonal Affect Disorder. I’m looking for some compadres who feel like an overwatered, under-lighted mushroom in daily life.

I know and practice as many of the coping techniques as possible – the “happy lamp”, exercise, sauna, Vitamin D, etc. etc. and some more etc. I’m looking for people who finally threw in the towel and moved – or who somehow found a way to stay in their current location. (I know that moving is not always an option). Are you in a significant relationship where the other person is HAPPY (how do they DO that??) in the gray and rain but you can’t even function? 20 karma points for any personal stories. Thanks in advance. May the Light and the palm trees be with you!

Random Ponderings and Fumes

Howdy ho, folks!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted because Pete and I were cavorting around the big island of Hawaii. More on that in a moment.

My mind works in rather “unique” ways (notice the sudden topic change). I saw the ever popular bumper sticker today that said, “The best things in life aren’t things”. Welllll – what might those be? Relationships, laughter, joy, love, sunsets? Those are all nouns – which technically are – drum roll -things 🙂 Maybe the bumper sticker should say that the best things in life are adjectives! Or superlatives! Like totally!

Meanwhile, back to the cavorting. Any trip to Hawaii is awesome. We truly want to move there in the next few years. The highlight of this jaunt was to get as close as possible to the fuming volcano, Kilauea. Much of the immediate area around the caldera was closed due to those sulfur fumes. It was bittersweet to see the closed (for renovations) Volcano House hotel right on the rim because that is where we spent part of our honeymoon 26 years ago. It was also bittersweet to drive certain roads and to look way up to the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa observatories because that is where Pete’s dad spent alot of time with his work for NASA.

Amongst the very best things in life, to me, are the Hawaiian islands and their culture and music. Part of me is always there.

Happy Birthday, Chris

November 18th. You would have been 56. You left us way too early and we miss you terribly, Chris. Like I told mom today, when it comes to losing you, we’ll get through it but we’ll never get over it.

If all our computers jam up and our lights go on the fritz like they did when you died, I’ll take that as a good sign. Just not for too long, ok llama?

Love, Moosegal

(“Llama and moose” was an inside joke that Chris and I shared based on the Monty Python’s “Holy Grail” Movie.)

Pretty reasonable picture quality for an iPhone camera and having taken these without my glasses. (The quality was even better with the pix being larger but this WordPress site didn’t seem to like that option). I believe a really good camera is in my future somewhere. Chris is my inspiration for that. He took some great shots.
